Out of the 3 films, I chose to watch Planet of the Vampires. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t find this particular film too interesting, and it was hard to pay attention to the plot. At least that isn’t the main component of this blog post!
I really liked the set of this movie. During half of the movie, the characters are all in a spaceship. I really like the layout of this ship, it was spacious but not too busy. Most everything in the ship was a chrome/silver color, with many different buttons, screens and lights. The layout of this set really gave of the appearance of an actual spaceship, which really helped bring you into the scene. During the other half of the movie, the characters are off the ship and on the planet. The landscape was very rocky and dark, which is exactly what I would have expected of this planet. This gave the impression that the planet wasn’t exactly safe, which it definitely wasn’t! I really liked the set for the planet, even though it was a little hard to see at times.
I noticed that the movie was mainly it in dark blues, greens, and reds. I thought that the blue and green lights gave off a very eery effect. When the sky was red it made me think that something bad was ahead, I guess I link red with the concept of evil. Everything was also quite dark, which added to this. I thought that it enhanced the fact that this was not meant to be a happy movie, rather a suspenseful and dark one.
Overall the set design really took the cake in Planet of the Vampires, and it wouldn’t have been the same without it!
